Cayman Enterprise City – A Bold Vision, An Exciting Reality

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

These are the early days for Cayman Enterprise City, the Caribbeans only technology-based Special Economic Zone, and Jason Blick CECs young and dynamic Chief Executive Officer is brimming with optimism and excited about what he and his team are developing in the Cayman Islands. We are doing tremendously well, he said. There are 5 companies now established within the Zone, 17 are in the process of being set up and another 80 plus are in the pipeline at various stages of negotiation so I couldnt be happier.

It is the realization of a bold concept that Blick, a finance law attorney and expert on Special Economic Zones, envisioned while working with successful SEZs in the Middle East The Cayman Islands is a tax-neutral jurisdiction offering easy access to lucrative and emerging markets in North and Latin America. Using the experience, knowledge and insight gained from a decade in Dubai, Jason Blick set off in 2008 on a four-year search of the Caribbean region. The journey ended in the Cayman Islands. Cayman stood out, he said. It has a forward-thinking government, a very dynamic community, and a wealth of support services we never had in Dubai.

The Special Economic Zone, enabled by Cayman Islands legislation passed last year, opened for business in this January, a year after Blick and his team signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government. The project was fast-tracked with support from the government, the Civil Service and the private sector. CECs master campus which breaks ground this summer, will include an Internet& Technology Park, a Biotech Park, a Media Park, a Global Commodities Park, an International Academic Park and an Outsource Park. Companies licensed to operate in the zone are globally focused and not allowed to trade in Caymans domestic economy.

I was very grateful for the foresight and vision of the Premier, the Honorable McKeeva Bush, said Jason. Mr. Bush came to Dubai with us and saw for himself the success of the zones in the Middle East.

Blick moved to the Middle East from England fresh out of law school because he says it was the place to be in the 1990s. Dubai was a new frontier where the free zones were merging technology and media it was exhilarating! he says. He advised operators, partners, financiers and end-users of Special Economic Zones. He watched Dubai Internet City develop from a sandy wasteland into a thriving economic hub in ten short years, and he also witnessed the positive impact that these economic powerhouses had on local economies. Jason Blick is confident that CEC will create new jobs, new industries, new businesses and new careers in Cayman and boost and diversity its economy.

His experience and ties to the Middle East have led to a strategic partnership with Dubai Multiple Commodities Centre, strengthening trade relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Cayman Islands. In a highly competitive global financial market, relationships like this benefit investors, so companies established in both zones can quickly access new markets.

Cayman Enterprise City is the first special economic zone to house commodities teams and this is the only SEZ in the world that has a partnership with Dubai, he said. This is a reflection of their belief in our model and we are very excited about it.

Jason Blick is also confident that many of the Fortune 500 companies will establish a presence in Cayman Enterprise City. They are always watching for the next opportunity, and now because of the internet companies can conduct global sales from anywhere in the world, he says.

Why Cayman Enterprise City? Zero Taxes, responds the CEO emphatically when the question is posed. From US$ 12,492 a year you can quickly have your company established and operating in a tax-neutral environment. You dont have any import duties, there is no sales tax, no income taxes, no corporate taxes, no capital gains and you can have 100% ownership of your company, and it will be tax exempt for 50 years.

Cayman is a convenient one-hour flight from Miami and offers easy access to North America, Latin America and Europe. There is also the added benefit that Grand Cayman is a great place to live with its easy and wonderful lifestyle, great weather and friendly people.

There are some 3,000 SEZs in various parts of the world today, but Jason Blick says most are based on antiquated models for manufacturing or engineering. The future he is certain is in the 1% of Special Economic Zones focused on technology and knowledge like Cayman Enterprise City. And he has big dreams for CEC.

I want to see the creation of the worlds best knowledge-based global IT and media center to attract entrepreneurs in a very cohesive and creative environment, he says enthusiastically. I want scientists to someday see Cayman as the exciting and supportive center for new ideas and concepts in science.

About Jason Blick

He served as Head of Berrymans Lace Mawer in the Middle East before becoming the CEO of an emerging markets bank with operations in 11 countries across the Middle East and Asia. He became Managing Partner of FP Law, a law firm advising on Special Economic Zones. Jason has written and lectured extensively on finance law and considered an expert on Special Economic Zones. Tips on Celebrating Older Americans Month from Senior Care Corner

Greenville, SC (PRWEB) May 08, 2012

Older Americans have done, and continue doing, many things for the nation and for other Americans. This May, for the 20th consecutive year, we celebrate them and show our appreciation with the nationwide commemoration of Older Americans Month.

Senior Care Corner joins in celebrating what seniors mean to America and promoting the theme of this years Older Americans Month, which is Never Too Old to Play, encouraging the nations more than 40 million seniors (according to the 2010 Census) to stay active and engaged in their lives and communities.

Staying active and engaged helps keep seniors and all of us healthier mentally and physically says Kathy Birkett, Senior Care Corner co-founder. By putting the Never Too Old to Play theme into action, we can give something back to older Americans, hopefully a benefit that extends beyond Older Americans Month.

There are many ways to get involved and put the Older Americans Month theme into action. The U.S. Administration on Agings website for the commemoration encourages organizations to host a day of play for the community, but individuals can take action on their own as well.

Tips to Put Never Too Old to Play Into Action

Put on a physical fitness day for the community, providing an opportunity for those of all ages to be active and interactive.
Organize a local board game day, bringing together players young and old to compete. Studies give hope that brain stimulation can reduce the risk of dementia, including Alzheimers disease.
Create a community event where seniors, younger adults and youth can express themselves through their art and exchange ideas.
Stop by a local nursing home and play a board game with some of the residents. This activity can be fun and habit-forming for all involved.
Invite local seniors to join students in a field day with activities that show all how much fun it can be to get moving.
The accomplishments and contributions of older Americans can and should be celebrated each day, and likewise the Never Too Old to Play concept. Encouraging older adults and those of all ages to be more active physically and mentally is a year-round priority that provides lifelong benefits.

Bon Chovie (Brooklyn Anchovy Entrepreneurs) Rocks the Boat with SmartKnot (Brookyn Tech Startup)

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

When husband and wife team Neill and Renae Holland launched their fried anchovy business one year ago, they had no idea that it would be an instant hit. Neill, a writer, media expert and avid fisherman, and Renae a music industry professional and food enthusiast created the concept for Bon Chovie in their Brooklyn kitchen in 2011. Within weeks they went from selling 20 pounds of the little fish per weekend to nearly 60 pounds every Saturday at local all-food flea market Smorgasburg.

These unlikely anchovy entrepreneurs have now grown from one weekly market to three, and eventually hope to move beyond their 10 by 10 tent into a brick and mortar location in the near future. However, in this down economy it is difficult for even thriving small business to obtain much needed capitol to fuel expansion.

Enter Smallknot a new crowdfunding platform created by two former lawyers, Ben Rossen and Jay Lee. They were tired of seeing beloved local businesses fizzle out from lack of funding. Rossen and Lee seek to solve that problem by generating a lump investment compiled of small sums of cash donated by friends and fans of a particular business. In exchange for their contributions, customers receive rewards such as discounts, exclusive products and behind the scenes experiences.

In the case of Bon Chovie, donors will get free food, merchandise, guided fishing trips, dinners on the beach and cooking lessons. They hope to reach their goal of $ 6,000 to buy a much needed cargo van to carry equipment from market to market. This new approach to cultivating local business is sure to be a big hit. Bringing owners and their customers together creates a bond with the community and the potential for even greater growth and new relationships. To follow the Bon Chovie campaign visit SmallKnot.com.

The bar is raised for banking operations jobs candidates in 2012

(PRWEB UK) 27 April 2012

The banking operations jobs market continues to prove challenging to candidates, Randstad Financial and Professionals latest market research has shown.

The quarterly report, compiled from research gathered from the views of industry consultants and recruitment statistics, has found that the application process for banking operations jobs applicants this year is set to be no less demanding than in 2011. In an extremely competitive jobs market, employers are looking for proof of highly specific skill sets.

This is, in part, due to increase in demand for specific technical roles notably structured derivatives and on-boarding.

Another reason for more being expected from potential candidates is the dramatic 80% decrease in available roles from this time last year. Q1 is traditionally a busy period, however, the banking operations jobs market continues to be affected by uncertainty in the Eurozone, in addition to the traditional compensation season and budget period fluctuations in the sector.

There does appear to be some light at the end of the tunnel. Market intelligence suggests that things are set to improve moving into Q2, as the industry responds to regulatory changes within the market. One key area that has affected the operations space is the Dodd Frank regulation, and as a result, many firms will be looking to recruit candidates with experience in operational control and regulatory reporting.

Randstad has also seen a number of the larger firms recruiting at the more senior level, as well as some activity within the smaller houses, as well the hedge fund market.
